A word from the ROSE President:
Hello All,
Well we had another fabulous meeting last month. Our meeting program was on the application and use of make up with our very special guest Wayne. He discussed and demonstrated how to get that very special look and gave us great make up tips and secrets on eyes, shadowing and much more. We had another large wonderful group attend the meeting that learn quite a lot from Wayne and came away from the meeting with a vast knowledge of make up application, new ideas and make up techniques. Wayne went into great detail on how to use the different types of make up and brushes available. His explanations were in great depth and very easy to understand. His detailed demonstration was absolutely fabulous. One of the members volunteered to be his model for the night to help demonstrate the make up techniques and recieved a make over for eveyone to check out. About half way thru the program we took a short break and everyone chowed down on and enjoyed the tasty snacks and drinks that were supplied by ROSE and some of the members and visitors who attended the meeting. After our break the discussion and make up demonstration continued then ROXI held a question and answer period and many good questions were answered. Below are a few questions and answers about Make up that were asked ..... Everyone greatly enjoyed the program and complemented Wayne on his presentation. It seem that this program had sparked a lot of interest on what our next program will be and also wanted to know when Wayne was going to return.......
1.) How do you chnge the contour of the face with make up?
Changing the contour of ones face is used thru highlighting and shadowing techniques. Darker shadows tend to withdraw the face inwards and highlights tend to bring the face forward. Using a darker shade of blush below the check bone will contour and shape a chubby cheek, whereas a lighter shade of eye color will help relieve sunken eyes.
2.) How do you shadow eyes?
The eyes are the windows of the soul, so special care and shadowing is important for the perfect look. Drawing the eye shape more on the outside will give a wall eyed look verus using heavier make up towards the center or inner part of the eye.
3.) How do you get the Cat eye Look? Click picture to enlarge
This is the common name for the term today, but it is the typiccal Egyptian eye of Ra that is sought after. When applying the blackest black as a liner, be sure that it is a solid line and not a smudge line. The cat eye is very defined and
very pronounced. The line usually encircles anything directly related to the globe of the eye. The outside corner is extended to a point. Extra shadow work is used as a filler in the outer corner of the eye lid to finish the look.
4.) How do I shape my Lips?
The best lip shape to go by is the lower lip. When applying lipstick, apply it to the upper lip only and bring the color
down to the lower lip. (You may have to work at it several times until you have full lower lip coverage.) You will get a perfect shape and lip-line almost everytime. Then you can draw or pixel the upper lip to match the thickness (or slightly smaller) of the lower lip. When contouring or lip-lining, avoid the corners so that the overall appearance doesn't look drawn on like you put on a pair of wax lips. Lips can be highlighted or glossed as the personality wishes.
T Girl Make Over Services
After discussing T Girl make overs with Wayne after the meeting program he agreed to become our very own Special Make Over Service for Rose .... and ..... The Transgender Community. Wayne, better known as Roxi, can give you a complete make over and you will come away looking like a Beauty Queen. Wayne has given make overs and applied make up for Gender women, Female Illusionist and T Girls locally and as far away as New York. He is a professional make up artist in the Local area and also has agreed to keep the cost low and work with T Girls who want to have make overs. So, if you ever wanted to have a complete make over here's is your chance to become that Beauty Queen you always wanted to be.
If you think you cannot be made over to look like that Beauty Queen you always wanted to be and have your doubts take a look at the Before and After pictures of those in New York who are members of FemmFever who had make overs done by their T girl make over service. I am sure you will find that no matter what you look like as a boy your girly look will be glamous. http://www.femmefever.com/before.html ....... contact for Roxi (Wayne) is below........

The Rose Board has discussed having a movie night a couple times a year as a meeting program of which I think is a great idea myself. So ... as of now our schedule for our May meeting will be a movie night. We will have a Large Screen TV , at least a 50 inch viewing screen to view the movie which will be either a Projection or Plazma TV. This way it will feel like your in a movie theater and no one will be straining their eyes to see the movie. So bring your popcorn or enjoy our snacks and of course enjoy the movie. We will announce the title of the movie near the end of April. It will be Transgender Related and will be an interesting movie, guaranteed.......
We are in the works now discussing a Transgender Ball or for another description the Renaissance T-Girl Prom for next year or with the possibility of this year around Harrisburg Pride week. We hope to hold this T-Girl Ball at one of the hotels in Harrisburg or Camp Hill, Pa., possibly at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center, we will have to let you know after our meetng with the Radisson and with several locations where exactly the Ball will be held. We are scheduled to have a conference with the Raddison Hotel management soon to discuss the event. We will be discussing having a section of rooms reserved for T-Girls and Ball Guest to spend the night at a discount, the cost to rent the Grand Ball Room and about other features and the dinner cost per individual for the Event. The T-Girl Ball will be in their Grand Ball Room. The Renaissance Ball or other wise will be known as the T Girl Prom will sort of be like the FemmFever Gala Ball Femmfever has in New York. We will have a live band and DJ to dance to, a great dinner served to you, a show and much more. We are planning to have a King and Queen of the Ball with nominations and an election by the attendees of the Ball to represent the Transgender community. We hope to have a few prizes and other things to present to the winning King and Queen of the Ball. Make overs will also be available to those T girls who want to be that beauty queen for their first T Girl Prom. Imagine going to your Prom or the Ball wearing your fabulously beautiful gown and stylist hair do's and the men wearing their tux or suits dancing away the night and enjoying a great dinner and a show. It will be a night your will remember until the next year ..... We would like to get some feed back from the T Girls and Men in the community about this so please let us know if you would want to attend an event like this. This event will be open to out of Town T-Girls and Men also. The price should be very affordable and comparable to the FemmFever Gala Ball Price, perhaps even a little less. We thought this would be a great annual event to start for those T girls and men who cannot make the FemmFever Gala Ball in New York or other great events outside of Pa.. Information about the FemmFever Gala Ball is below for more information about that. The event will be safe for all to attend. The Raddison Hotel use to have Drag shows and a dinner there so we know this hotel is very Transgender exceptive and safe for all. Please let us know if you would want to attend an event like this by sending us your comments to the following e-mail address ........ RoseBoardMembers@RenaissanceSEP.org

I have been to this Gala Ball and this is another Event that is not to be missed. I met hundreds of T girls at this Event a couple of years ago, the food was fantastic, the entertainment was wonderful and you could not meet a better group of friendly people. So .... If you want to go to a T Girl Prom, this is your chance. I give this event a AAAA for enjoyment and a wonderfully fabulous time. This event takes place in the Holiday Inn on Long Island in their Beautiful gigantic Ball Room. It is very private and safe for all. Myself, Ellen and Deanna even did a few numbers at this Gala Ball a couple of years ago in Female Illusion. There's an article in one of the old LSV newsletters about our Gala Ball experience, check it out

Why You Need A Transgender Support Group
by Jamie Daily
I can honestly say that joining a trans support group was life changing for me.
When I first came to Connecticut Outreach Society (COS) some ten years ago, I never realized just how much I didn't know, but COS helped me learn. I had not really understood a lot of what I was going through, but COS helped me make sense of things. Some of my best friends (in both "boy mode" and "girl mode") I met through COS. COS helped me make decisions and helped me find others in the community. COS allowed my wife to become more familiar with the trans community too and that helped her and our relationship.
Not everyone has had the same experience with COS or with other support groups. Still, I suspect that most of us have experienced things that had similarities. I also suspect that anyone who has not yet been involved with a support group will experience many of the same things if they get involved with one.
Some people that I have talked with have looked to online communities for support. Online communities can be beneficial and they can offer much. In many ways, online communities and support groups mean to do the same things, although they differ in how they provide their support. Support groups allow people to talk face-to-face whereas online communities are essentially people typing short messages to each other. In my not so humble opinion, people can communicate so much better in person than via email or message board.
Online communities are wonderful for providing libraries of information and archives of past discussions. Although online communities excel with discussions that include large numbers of people, the discussions tend not to be very in-depth. Time and time again, we learn from marketers and sociologists that people prefer to do their online reading in short bursts of brief paragraphs. Take a look at any of the online news services for examples. The home page for CNN is little more than headlines that navigate to articles that are each typically less than a thousand words. A quick survey of some of the many email lists that I subscribe to shows the typical message is only a few paragraphs long and involve only a few replies. Taken together as a single "thread," these online conversations typically are less than one thousand words.
A thousand words may be more than what you need.
Most support groups have an online presence, such as a website or Yahoo group or blog, but the online presence is usually fairly limited. In many cases, this is a fairly conscious decision by the group. The most effective way for support groups to support people is by providing a physical space in which people can dress and interact. Being able to meet people face-to-face is, in many ways, so much more meaningful than online chats, emails, or picture swapping. Although most groups do that too, you can communicate so much more easily verbally than through typing.
When you get to meet people at a support group, you get more than just a name, a picture, and a few words in an email. You get to see the real person. You can be confident that the person talking to you is real rather than someone who stole some lingerie model's picture and claims to be an authority on all things. In short, you make friends with "real people."
Also, support groups are great ways to "get out of the closet for a while" without "going public." Most people who attend a t-support group at trans themselves and are sympathetic. You don't have to "pass" at a support group meeting. You don't have to feel embarrassed if you don't pass well because there is no risk of some "civilian" gawking at you because you look might look like a "guy in a dress." Often confidence does not come easily the first time one ventures from the safety of their own room. Having a "safe place" to change and to meet others is a wonderful way to test the waters and build up that confidence.
Sure, you can attend various trans-related social events, but these don't provide the same kind of interaction as what you get with a support group. Actually, COS was formed because people were unsatisfied with get-togethers at bars. At bars, you have loud music, which makes it hard to have meaningful conversations. At bars, you have non-trans folk there who may be hitting on you. At bars, it can be expensive because you have to buy drinks, food, etc. At bars, you can easily chat one-on-one with a person, but it is very hard to have a meaningful group conversation. In short, support groups give you a proper environment to help each other, ask questions, and develop as a person -- things not normally associated with bars.
Don't get me wrong, I still like doing the social things too! I think that having a decent social life is very important. I make an effort to attend the regular get-togethers at Triangles in Danbury as well as other special events when I can. Often, I'll meet up with friends at a support group meeting and after the meeting, head out to a bar or club. It is just that each type of event has it's role...
You may wish to look into attending one of the conferences that take place nearly every month somewhere around the country. Although I'll be the first to say that I am not objective about these conferences since I am actively involved with a few, I do honestly think that they are truly worthwhile.
Most conferences are a combination of workshops and social events and most make available professional services, such as makeovers, wigs, corsets, shoes, jewelry, and medical consultations. The workshops can range anywhere from the trivial, such as "How to be a Sissy Maid" to the serious, such as "Gender Theory 101." Over the years, I have learned so much by attending these conferences -- and not just from the workshops. Being able to hang out with people with whom you can have fun with as you learn from them is really special. Plus, these conference typically hold some sort of formal event, so you get an opportunity to get really dolled up.
But for as beneficial as I feel conferences can be, these conferences are most often held annually. Many people need support more frequently than once every fifty two weeks.
Just as conferences present workshops, so do most support groups. A conference may give the attendee opportunities for sit in on a dozen or so workshops in a few short days. A support group may offer a similar twelve topics but over twelve months. Sure, a conference will often attract higher profile personalities, but the costs associated with a conference are also higher.
If a person is just starting to explore their gender issues, they may not want to devote multiple days to a conference in city that is out of state. Others may not be able to afford to take the time off from work and still others may not be able to afford the cost, however reasonable, of attending the conference. Support groups provide a relatively inexpensive way to learn a lot.
In short, there are many ways to get support and each has its advantages although support groups tend to be the best for what you are looking for - support.
